WeRide
The most internationally aggressive Chinese operator, and Uber's main AV supplier outside the US. It holds Spain's first national L4 licence, a Swiss driverless permit, Belgium's first federal L4 test permit, and it ran Europe's first driver-out commercial passenger service — a Renault-partnered Robobus in rural France, in March 2025. It claims its Middle East robotaxi business has been operationally profitable since 2025.

Rovaltain Drôme, France
Europe's first fully driverless commercial AV passenger service — and it is a business-park shuttle, not a taxi. WeRide and Renault removed the operator here in March 2025, a year before anyone managed it with a robotaxi.

Madrid Spain
Spain's traffic authority issued the country's first national Level 4 robotaxi licence on 10 September 2026. Dozens of WeRide GXRs are in pre-commercial service with operators onboard; full public service is targeted before the end of 2026. Waymo picked the Madrid region for its first Spanish service in October 2026, with riders from 2027.

No robotaxi service, but the most visible AV showcase in Europe: WeRide and Renault ran an autonomous Robobus at Roland-Garros for a third year in May 2026 on a 2.8 km, three-stop loop.

Zurich Greater Zurich, Switzerland
Switzerland's AV ordinance made it the fastest permit shop in Europe. WeRide holds a FEDRO driverless permit for the Furttal corridor since November 2025 and plans a commercial Uber-app service before the end of 2026, with Rydera running the fleet. Its Robobus already runs driver-out at Zurich Airport.
